Have you ever thought about volunteering with Tumaini la Maisha to support children with cancer but didn’t know exactly how you might help? In our new Make-A-Wish Tanzania programme we’re on the lookout for new members of the volunteering community team!
Make-A-Wish Tanzania programme volunteers are involved in attending events on behalf of Tumaini la Maisha, raising awareness for our wish-granting programme in Tanzania, supporting our fundraising campaigns, capturing wishes with our children and bringing them through the wish journey.
As a Community Volunteer, you’ll attend events, raise awareness, capture wishes with children, guide them through their Wish Journey, and assist with fundraising. Tumaini la Maisha welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds to join our Make-A-Wish Tanzania team.
Volunteer Roles
Wish-granting process
Wish granters work directly with children and their families to bring their wishes to life. This role involves:
- Interviewing wish children: Volunteers meet with children and their families to understand their heartfelt wish.
- Planning and coordinating: Working with the Make-A-Wish Tanzania team and external partners to organize the wish experience.
- Creating magical experiences: Adding personalized touches to make each wish truly special.
- Follow-ups and documentation: Ensuring the wish experience is smooth and memorable.
Special events – fundraising
The Make-A-Wish Tanzania programme team relies on community support to fund wishes, and volunteers help organize and execute fundraising initiatives. This role involves:
- Creative fundraising ideas: Brainstorming innovative ways to raise funds and awareness
- Event planning: Assisting with charity balls, art auctions, marathons, and other fundraising activities.
- Sponsorship outreach: Connecting with local businesses, corporate partners, and individuals to secure sponsorships and partnerships
- On-the-day support: Managing logistics, engaging with guests, and promoting the Make-A-Wish Tanzania programme at events.
Influencer & advocacy
Advocacy volunteers help raise awareness about the Make-A-Wish Tanzania programme through storytelling and social influence. This role includes:
- Celebrity & influencer partnerships: Engaging high-profile individuals to support and amplify the Make-A-Wish Tanzania programme impact.
- Social media ambassadors: Sharing our Make-A-Wish Tanzania stories, campaigns, and fundraising efforts on personal or professional platforms.
- Community engagement: Encouraging individuals, businesses, and groups to get involved in fundraising or wish-granting.
- Public speaking: Representing Tumaini la Maisha at events, conferences, and media interviews to spread awareness about our wish granting programme.
